Welcome to my first blog post! I’m Bobby Ericson, and I’m excited to take you on a journey through my lens, from the moment I first picked up a DSLR camera in 2006 to where we are now in November 2023.
The Early Days: Bobby’s Sports Photography
In 2006, I discovered my love for photography when I got my hands on my first DSLR camera. Eager to hone my skills, I embarked on my photography journey and started capturing life’s moments. My first venture, “Bobby’s Sports Photography,” was all about capturing the action on the sports field. Little did I know that this was just the beginning.
Becoming Ericson’s Photography
In 2007, I faced an interesting turning point. While shooting a wedding, I had a moment of realization. People were asking for my business card, but it felt odd to hand out cards that read “sports photography” while capturing weddings. To better reflect the diversity of my work, I rebranded as “Ericson’s Photography.” This change allowed me to embrace a broader range of photography genres and serve a wider clientele.
A Specialized Niche: We Cover Cheer
In 2008, my photography journey took another exciting turn. I found myself captivated by cheer and dance photography. The enthusiasm, energy, and creativity of these teams inspired me to create a second business: “We Cover Cheer.” This venture allowed me to focus exclusively on documenting the vibrancy of cheer and dance teams.
Life’s Milestones and Challenges
Fast forward to 2023, and my journey has been filled with personal and professional milestones. I completed my college education at Grand Canyon University and, along the way, I met my wonderful wife, who shares my passion for photography. Our family experienced a challenging time when our son was born with a congenital heart condition called Tetralogy of Fallot. He underwent open-heart surgery at just four months old, reinforcing the importance of cherishing life’s moments.
We persevered through the trials of the COVID-19 pandemic, adapting our photography business to the changing landscape. Now, in November 2023, I am thrilled to share that Ericson’s Photography has found its home in San Diego. Our focus has evolved to specialize in boudoir photography, a genre that allows us to capture the beauty and confidence of individuals in a unique and intimate way.
Looking Ahead to 2024
As we celebrate 15 years since the inception of “We Cover Cheer,” I’m already excited about the great things the future holds. We recently had the opportunity to work with a cheerleading team, marking the beginning of our 15-year celebration journey. 2024 promises new adventures, creative challenges, and unforgettable moments, and we can’t wait to share them with you.
